Telangana Road Accident in Rangareddy district has claimed the lives of at least 24 people, including 14 women and a 10-month-old baby, and left over 25 injured in one of the state’s worst highway disasters. The tragedy unfolded early Monday morning near Mirzaguda village on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway when a gravel-laden tipper lorry, driving at high speed and overloaded, swerved abruptly to avoid a pothole.
This led it to cross into the opposite lane and collide head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus that was carrying 72 passengers, nearly double its permitted capacity. The impact was so severe that the front of the bus was crushed, both drivers lost their lives, and massive quantities of gravel trapped many passengers beneath the wreckage.

Over-Speeding
Over-Loading
Initial police investigations indicate the main causes were over-speeding, overloading, and reckless driving by the tipper truck driver, who lost control while attempting to overtake, swerved to avoid a pothole, and ended up on the wrong side of the road.
The tipper was reportedly loaded with more than 50 tonnes of gravel, while legal limits are around 30–35 tonnes. Both vehicles crashed so forcefully that several passengers died on the spot, and rescuers had to use earthmovers to extract those trapped under the spilled gravel.
